Strengthening the digitalisation of the education system: Commonwealth salutes the Ivorian model and ministry leadership Mariatou Koné
Abidjan on Thursday, February 27, 2025.
Ivory Coast continues its commitment to the qualitative transformation of its educational system. This Thursday, the Ministry of National Education and Literacy (MENA), Professor Mariatou KONÉ, received a delegation from the Commonwealth, led by CHAN Etienne BAMA, Regional Director of the organization for Africa.
The object of this meeting, which was held in the conference room of the MENA Cabinet, was to explore partnership opportunities to accelerate the digitalization of the educational sector, already well initiated by Côte d’Ivoire.
An inspiring Ivorian model
Opening the exchanges, CHAN Étienne BAMA, accompanied by the Investment Director, Pride AZEFOR, strategic partner “Promethean World”, a world leader in the field of educational technologies, praised the potential of Ivory Coast in the field of digital and the importance of accompanying this transition:
“Africa is a land of opportunity, with a demography to absorb. Digital represents real luck. Your leadership in the implementation of the digitalization of the Ivorian education system is a school case for the sub-region. We come up with this innovative project to accompany you in this dynamic. “
The head of the delegation also specified that this project plans for the introduction of digital solutions to secure the large-print exams, thereby ensuring the credibility of results and diplomas.
A dynamic already engaged in Ivory Coast
Welcoming this Commonwealth initiative, Minister Mariatou KONÉ recalled that digitalisation has always been at the heart of the Ivorian government’s priorities. She wants as evidence, the adoption of the National Strategy for Digitalization, currently being implemented in the country:
“It’s an already open door that you walk in. In the face of current challenges, digitalisation is an opportunity for the world and Africa, whether parents, teachers or students. Ivory Coast will not be marginalized by these challenges and opportunities offered by the digital. We are already in this dynamic, as evidenced by the Organization of the General States of National Education and Literacy (EGENA), which has made digital, priority number 4 among the recommendations of these national consultations. “
Digital, a solution to teacher shortage
Subsequently, the Ministry stressed that digitalization allows both to reduce regional disparities and to close the teacher shortage, which remains a challenge for education globally. Since the COVID-19 crisis, Côte d’Ivoire has readjusted its approach to education through the implementation of the platform “Mon school a la maison”, used by all learners in the country and beyond.
Successful experience that inspire other countries
Besides, the Ministry stated that the Ivorian model of digitalization of education attracts the attention of several African countries today:
“The Cameroonian Minister in charge of National Education was recently visiting here to get inspired by our model. I am therefore pleased with your approach to this project, which is already successful in many countries. This is an opportunity for all of Africa. It is essential that we strengthen the capacity of our teachers in this area. “
With this potential partnership between Côte d’Ivoire and the Commonwealth, the country positions itself as a major player in digital education in Africa. To ensure the success of this collaboration, Ivorian and Commonwealth experts will deepen the discussions through exchanges of best practices, aimed at sustainable transformation of teaching and learning in the country.
